ROBERT BRADFORD

A graduate of The Royal College of Art, Robert Bradford has had an illustrious career in many creative forms, including film, painting and sculpture. He is perhaps best known for his Toy Works, where he uses recycled toys and other found materials to create large colourful animals and humans, presenting a playful and edgy form of memorabilia. His more recent work, featured here, is from his Trash Art series. In this work the starting point is discarded artwork which is upcycled in pieces onto wood or canvas and then re-worked with acrylic paint, showing new and old together in a collage. Robert says, “I have always enjoyed questioning what might constitute a ‘contemporary’ painting and like to play with often conflicting elements within a single canvas... some of these elements surprise me by ‘just about hanging together’ creating what I hope constitutes ‘an edge’ “.
